… well four days of fun are over on RH300 - The Redhat fast track and certification course. Tomorrow is the exam. 6 hours of Redhat configuring, repair and multiple choice in sunny Guilford await me tomorrow… The four days so far have covered lots of things in the Linux world. I’m a little disappointed at the level of detail - very high level, apart from a couple of units today and yesterday that got down to the real detail. I suppose it’s very hard to gear a course at everybody - our class is quite mixed ability, but at the same time I’m surprised it wasn’t clearer in the course overview documentation I’d reviewed before booking. Great instructor too makes for interesting diversions and discussions around the subjects.
However, complacency is a very dangerous thing - Despite having god knows how many years of Unix (12?) and SA (8?) experience, it’s still a daunting thought of the three technical exams tomorrow, under exam conditions.
After I finished my degree in 1995, I swore I wouldn’t do another exam, but the market right now makes the certification ‘rubber stamps’ necessary to set you apart from others.
So, think of me tomorrow stuck in the exams. I should find out in a week or so if I’ve passed, but apparantly there’s some degree of feedback, so it’s possible to get a rough idea after each stage how I’m doing. I just hope I don’t have anything hanging over me. Off to Amsterdam for a weekend away straight afterwards…

Well Richard
I couldnt get to your Amsterdam photos, how the heck is this achieved, I am told no authority (but maybe I’m doing it wrong) ?
Otherwise a great site, Paul Leyton would be proud of you.

Hi Martin,
I’ve sent you details in an e-mail.
Sorry, people took advantage of open access, so I’ve e-mailed you the login details. I didn’t want to do it, but such is life.
