I saw with my own eyes that the supposed protest against the rise in fuel prices didn’t really happen, and have to say I’m pleased that the ‘organisers’ shoddy attempt at attention seeking failed.
There was a lorry stopped at the end of our road - the south circular. The funny thing was nobody seemed to be bothered, even the cars behind him. This is because - I’d assume - there are frequently tail backs at this part of the road (which in turn makes our road a bit of a rat run at rush hour), and the drivers behind the lorry didn’t really notice any difference to normal.
Annoyingly, we didn’t manage to take advantage of this stoppage to manage and cross the normally busy road as the lorry pulled off just as we approached. Typical. Just when a bunch of whinging environmentally damaging and short sighted protesters could have benefited me on my walk to a crowded and late running train, they flunked it.
Perhaps this teaches me a lesson for wanting to see higher fuel prices as recompense for damaging the environment. I’m glad the government faced the protesters down in 2000, and didn’t back off this recent rise. I imagine they’ll not give much notice to them now either.

I am all for a new protest and if there is one where i live then i shall be there.
If petrol goes upto the 90p per ltr as expected i will not be able to run my car, take my child to school OR go to my supermarket.
You may say “take the bus” well i would if the busses where in safe working order, By that i mean that over the last month 2 busses from my local comapny have blown up and i dont mean that the engines went, i mean they blew up, exploded, burst into flames sort of exploded.
I am sick and tired of the government making drivers pay through the nose for petrol. approx 60p yes 60p from every ltr of petrol is tax so when the cost of buying your every day items in your local shop go up by 20 to 50% because the suppliers have to offset the high cost of fuel will you be happy or that you have to pay a hell of a lot more for your buss or train trip will you still be smiling? I think not.
The protests are held to help everyone.
