Today is Groundhog Day. There was a great article in yesterdays observer about the role the film of the same name has had in making this a new English expression, as well as stating many people believed it to be one of the most spiritual films ever made, and applicable to many religions.

Right now, thousands of people are waiting for Phil to appear, and it does strike me as a curious tradition. That the film has done wonders to increase this days popularity is beyond doubt.

I do rather like the film, but to argue it’s one of the most ’spiritual’ films ever made seems rather bizarre. It’s great that the reason for Murray’s character being stuck in the time loop is left unanswered - it does add to the air of strangeness. How would we all react in that situation? I’m sure the scriptwriters also had a great time coming up with all of the “what would he do?” moments.

Still, it’s on Channel 5 tonight (along with a couple of new CSI series, which is always good to see!).
