Readers who know Frances and I will be aware that we have been planning a serious bout of travelling in South East Asia and Australia/New Zealand for some time. I’ve been unable to talk about it here just incase it caused any problems with my work as an IT consultant.
As everybody I work with and for now knows, I’m free now to get all excitable about our plans. In a nutshell, we’re packing up shop in London and relocating to Glasgow. Essentially we’re putting everything into storage, and heading to South East Asia, specifically Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand April->July, and setting up shop in Scotland on our return. Our rough plan is taking shape with the diligent work of Frances. We’ve located a great deal with BA/Qantas that should see our flights taken care of, and gives us choice in where we fly to.
First stop is Tokyo, and we’re going to brave our fears of getting entirely lost and unable to communicate and travel from Tokyo down to Kyoto, and back again over two weeks, staying in rural Japanese hotels and locations where we can.
Once we’ve finished our tour of Japan, it’s down to Sydney for 5 days to see all that we can in this remarkable city (and I plan to climb up the bridge), but as the weather is only going to move against us in New Zealand, we’re flying over and travelling around the south island straight after.
It’s then back to Australia, with a view to cuddling koala’s (Frances), and seeing the Great Barrier Reef (without damaging it), Uluru (Ayres rock), and Perth.
We’ve a friend or two in Singapore, who we then hope to meet up with for a few days (and I can stock up on tech gadgetry!), before flying on to Bangkok and Thailand, living it up a little. It’s then back to Britain for early July, primarily a visit to Inverness for Frances’ brothers wedding.
Once all that’s done, it’s finding a home in Scotland, and sorting out work.
A heck of a lot ahead of us, but the plans are coming along, and we hope to be booking tickets at the end of this week. Ideally our house will be sold, as we’ve just reduced the price, but we’re working on the assumption it’ll be something to deal with whilst away.
This website will turn into something of a travel blog on our travels. I also intend to keep a journal whilst we’re travelling, as it’ll be very hard to remember exactly what we were up to. Anyway, stay tuned for more updates.
