For reasons relating to the radio broadcasting regulations in this country, the iTrip isn’t sold particularly widely. It’s available, that’s for sure, but not heavily marketed. It’s a real shame, as the iTrip is a wonderful piece of equipment.
I picked one up to attach to my iPod whilst in Bangkok, and just this last weekend got the software loaded up onto the iPod so that I could give it a whirl on our recent 400 mile trip to Glasgow, from London. Until now, I’ve had to burn CD’s for playing in the car, and for long road-trips, this rapidly becomes frustrating as you realise you’ve burnt the wrong tracks, or just don’t like them as much after the fifth play.
Having my iPod sat in the glove compartment with the iTrip merrily broadcasting away to my stereos radio receiver makes for a superb road-trip. My entire CD collection is sat there at my whim. I can play what I want, on my manufacturers-shipped CD/radio player, and enjoy the trip a whole lot more.
The only problem I’ve had is occasional iPod glitches where the unit has gone to sleep. Probably not the iTrip itself, more likely the Belkin cigarette lighter power supply which seems to pause/sleep the iPod on starting the engine, and at random intervals along the trip. Probably surge related, which does set my iPod-paranoia alight somewhat. This is offset somewhat by the possibility of seriously annoying the sporty-red-hatchback driver who’s just cut me up. Broadcasting some kid606 on 95.8 “Capital FM” to seriously piss them off should do the trick.
In summary then, it’s a great experience having my choice of music playing as we drive. No annoying DJ’s. No limited set of CD’s in the car. Just lots of choice. iPod choice. All that said though, my music selection does get filtered (and overridden) by Frances’ (my fiancée) selection criteria. Not sure how to resolve that issue though.

Japan
It’s nearly six months now since we were in Japan. At last, I’ve summoned up the courage to tackle our 1,600 digital photographs we took over our entire trip (the iTrip proved very successful!). In presenting the pictures online, I’ve…

There was a small Apple shop somewhere near Siam Square. I think it was the shopping centre not attached to the Skyway, but just across a small public outdoor space with a few more upmarket shops in. Open plan. Elevators at both ends.
