When working from home, I obviously rely on the telephone for staying in touch with colleagues. So it’s very annoying when I get a phone call from a telemarketer who doesn’t take no for an answer. More recently, automated dialers have been causing my blood pressure to rise.

So, via Nick, it’s good to see that the telephone preference service allows online registration of telephone numbers to be added to the legally binding Telephone marketing exclusion list. Worth spending a couple of seconds signing up for this if you’re as annoyed by it as I am.

I should add, yes, I do put the phone down if the telemarketer doesn’t take no for an answer (after requesting they take the number off their list).

Likewise, I’m a bit of a meany when people knock on the door by properly checking identity cards from anybody purporting to be working for a utility company, and being polite but dismissive with regards religious folk intent on spreading their take on reality.

We got one of those automated ones a few weeks ago, even after being on the TPS list for some time. It was the first time I’d heard one and I couldn’t believe it. It went along the lines of… “Er…Hello…My name is Mr Xyz and I’m pleased to tell you that’s you’ve won a etc. etc. …..Please call me on [insert premium rate number here]“.

So Richard, this working from home – it’s got nothing to do with your fancy new iMac has it? ;)
