Quite some time ago, I received an e-mail from somebody asking if I wanted to join LinkedIn, and I think I took a quick look, and decided it wasn’t of much use.
Since then, however, a few more folk have got in touch. Earlier today, I went to take another look, and discovered that a large proportion of the people I’ve worked with in the last 4-5 years are signed up. So this afternoon, when I really should have been finishing the skirting boards, I’ve been going guns at my address book, and hunting out the various folk who I may have worked with over the years, improving my network.
It’s already proved useful, enabling me to introduce a couple of folk who’d lost touch with each other (via their introductions facility), and enabling me to pass on a message to somebody I’d lost touch with and thoroughly enjoyed working with.
So, in a sense, LinkedIn has reached a tipping point for me, and suddenly become a useful contact manager. Especially useful when you’re in business yourself, and rely heavily on contacts for future business opportunities. My only criticism is that full services seem rather expensive.
So, if you know me, please Add me to your contact list. If not, and you like my website, feel free to do so too! And if you’ve no idea whether it’s of any use, have a poke about and try a few names of people you used to work with, you might be surprised. Certainly, in my circle, it seems that it’s rapidly become the best great networking tool.
