For unix geeks only: Some unix humour.

Windows users, look away now. You won’t get it. And, yes, we are laughing at you.

Haha, which reminds me of the only witicism in the exceptionally dry and terse Solaris/SunOS man pages, it used to be at the end of the page for “tunefs”. It went something along the lines of “you can tune a file system, but you can’t tune a fish”

I expect that this has now been removed for corporate governance reasons or similar now.

There’s also the classic Unix command line jokes, such as:

    % cd /pub
    % more beer

and I found a few good ones here:

    http://pintopc.home.cern.ch/pintopc/www/cois&lois/Unix_err.htm

    such as:

    % ar m God
    ar: God does not exist

    and

    % man woman
    No manual entry for woman

and, for talk like a Pirate day:

% ar x “matey, the treasure”
ar: matey, the tresure does not exist

Then there’s the jokey commands that aren’t valid:

select count(*) from users where clue>0
    No rows returned.

    That sort of thing.

    Marvellous every bit of it.
