The Audi advert on the television right now that claims greatness because, and I quote:
To date, NASA has filed 6,509 patents
In developing the A6, Audi filed 9,621
And I’m supposed to be impressed? How does that work? That Audi claims so many patents highlights more than anything else the sheer lunacy of the patent system if one company files so many patents. That Audi’s arse-warming innovations are supposed to compare too - by sheer quantity - to NASA’s innovations in pushing the boundaries of human endevour over the years is treating us the audience with such disdain it beggars belief.
I like to play with the idea that maybe one day I’ll be in a position to get a nice, luxury, geek dream fest and fuel efficient car. And I kinda liked Audi. But this advert, well, it just pisses me off.
The issue of Software patents demonstrates how dangerously flawed patent legislation has become in recent years. This advert seems to strive to glorify it, and backfires tremendously.

I have just been on Audi’s wesite to try and find out exactly what all the patents are. I typed in patents in the search block and selected to search entire site. The amount of search results was amazing. Nothing to be exact!
Brilliant!
