Back in January I took pictures at my brother’s wedding (see them here), and for my efforts was rather surprised - and pleased - to get a voucher to go along to a racing circuit and take part in one of their experiences.
All quite exciting, but work intervened with my timing and I’ve only just got around to arranging it. Suffice to say it’s all quite exciting. I had been thinking of doing a skid-pan day, but that felt far too sensible for such an occasion. Something a bit more, er, exhilarating was required (especially as my brother drives a Subaru Impreza). So I went for the ‘Skytrack experience’, which involves a few laps in a single seater - something I’ve always wanted to do. Then a shot (with a pilot!) in a single engined plane at a nearby airport. Here’s their excellent blurb on the single seater bit:
For a true Formula 1 style experience this is the one for you! Nothing beats the feeling of pulling out of the pit lane onto the famous Knockhill circuit in one of our State-of-the-Art Single Seater Racing Cars. With expert guidance from our first class instructors, you will take control of a Sporty SEAT. ‘On the power.. up to 4th.. go..go..go!’ you’ll soon be driving like a real pro! Two eye-popping demo laps will then prepare you for the drive of your life. Feel every inch of the track behind the wheel of your very own racing car! Maximum Adrenaline Rush!!
All quite exciting, if - I’ll confess - marginally terrifying but I figure you’ve got to give it your best shot and give everything a go. Quite something to look forward to in a few weeks time! Hopefully I’ll be able to persuade Frances to come along (when she’s stopped tutting at the lunacy of the idea), and take a few pictures too.
