As my post from last year about BBC trailers/miscellaneous advert music approaches a staggering 700 comments, I thought it made a lot of sense to revisit the post, summarise some of the big ‘discoveries’ we’ve made, and remind folk of some advert questions that haven’t been answered.

Personally, my favourite piece of music at the moment is the delightful The Beep Beep Song, by Simone White, currently featuring in an Audi advert (They thankfully long since ditched their ridiculous patent claim ad). There’s a delightful Bjork edge to her voice that I love.

One of the ongoing debates most recently has been the music to the recent BBC2 series ‘The Restaurant’. I was convinced, like many others, the music was by Yann Tiersen. Indeed, some of it was. The problem was that much of it wasn’t! The debate is still raging, and unfortunately – as is often the case – the broadcasters of the TV programmes are often none the wiser, and less than helpful, in getting to the bottom of the problem.

Most frustrating of all the Ford Focus advert featuring the line “suddenly i feel like peter pan” has not found an answer that satisfies, and I’m with everybody else in feeling rather frustrated. Ben Griffith has been mooted, but it’s still a bit inconclusive, and (to my knowledge), no track appears to be available for download/purchase.

I’m still pleased, and rather amused that Sigur Rós continue to feature heavily in television trailers. They’re a less-well known Moby! Most recently BBC’s Genius Of Photography trailer featured Svo Hljott from the album Takk; Here’s hoping their new album (clicky for download details) contains as many delightful pieces of music. I’m certainly planning to order it soon.

Anyway, I’m hoping this post may take over some of the “load” from the original post! Comments there are certainly getting a bit difficult to wade through, and as many people subscribe to get updates it can result in lots of e-mails going out: So really feels like time for a fresh page! I’ll now be a bit more pro-active approach in filtering comments that come through as I’ve had a few very vague queries which are a bit difficult to help with, and not a few bordering on flamewar comments, which I’ve deleted. Let’s keep it friendly and polite!

The best thing about this was the fact that I found exactly what I wanted, ok due to the 700 comments it took me a while, but I dont care cos I found what I have spent 5 months looking for within a couple of hours on this site.

I vote to keep the comments

    Richard Says:

The comments are certainly staying Damian! I just really wanted to get another page going so it wouldn’t hopefully prove as difficult for any new questions that might come up!

Glad you’re still happy with your find! :-)

A track that’s been puzzling me is the trailer music to “The Mummy Diaries”, currently running on Channel 4 (The programme goes out tonight). I knew I had the music somewhere, but for some reason couldn’t quite place it. Turns out it’s “Velvet Pony”, by Psapp, from the album “Tiger, My Friend”. I’m quite pleased I finally nailed it :-)

    Greg Says:

Hi Zeus, i think that was the song used in adverts for the ‘Planet Earth’ series (maybe). I’m after the tune used in the advert for ‘Earth – The power of the planet’.

The advert was on again the other night and I could just hear some lyrics along the lines of ‘I know I want you’ and ‘you know you want me’ if that helps at all (probably not though given how many songs have those lyrics…)

  14. 14
    Finch Says:

I’m hoping someone could name the song from the recent BBC radio advert, it’s the most recent one.

There was a TV car ad a few years ago.
The music was a pop song from a woman singer with a smattering of the lyrics being:
    “Angel, , . . . . . . on my happiness.
    Don’t stop , , , , , , , just a . . . . . . moving in.”

Very sketchy, but that’s all I remember.
    Can anyone help ?

    Chris Says:

Hello, there is/was (not sure if it’s still being shown) a recent Sky One trailer for shows in January. I’ve heard it elsewhere (i.e. TV shows, other adverts, and most certainly on a film soundtrack somewhere), but can’t remember what the song is called. It sounds similar to something Rob Dougan would produce, but I don’t think it’s him. Song sounds downtenpo, and I believe starts off with a short piano solo. If you can help me, I would be very grateful.

Firstly, sorry for the multi-posting on the old thread. I just came across this forum and was overly-excited that I wasn’t the only person who hears songs on adverts and trailers and then wishes they knew who sang it!

Anyways, does anybody happen to know the song in the background of the new Big Bang Theory trailer on E4? It’s the one where Sheldon shouts ‘Danger! Danger!’ and Penny says to Raj ‘do you think you’ll ever be able to talk in front of me without being drunk?’

It’s a sort of electro-alternative track. I thought it was something like OK GO or The Klaxons? Thanks

    James

Also trying to track down that music. It was also used by the F1 production team on Saturday’s Practice coverage for the Singapore GP, when the drivers review the track.

I hope they get back to me as it’s a cracking instrumental.

  61. 61
    Andy Says:

Same as the previous post by James… didn’t quite catch the whole thing but what was the music for the David Attenborough trailer (possibly for his online nature videos archive). It almost sounded like a cover of Coldplay’s Politik in parts but I don’t think that was it.

  62. 62
    Andrew Says:

Regarding the song from the david attenborough advert, I’m trying to find this song aswell. I think its a remix of ‘The Surface of the Sun’ by John Murphy from the film Sunshine. This version sounds really good with the guitars in it.

For the Life advert on BBC, it’s Kanada’s Death Pt.2. It’s part of the Sunshine official soundtrack.
