I’ve been a big fan and customer of Amazon for years, and remember placing orders back in the late 1990’s, not long after they opened up in the UK, for (technical) books that proved hard to get hold of in high-street bookshops.

I find their selection hard to beat, and combined with frequently very competitive prices, and excellent service, they’ve simply slotted in as a trusted company for many of my purchases.

I was intrigued to read about Amazon Prime when it launched in the US, and later over here. For an upfront fee (currently £49), all your purchases are shipped first class for a year.

It didn’t appeal at first, I just figured I didn’t need to order that many things to justify it. But I recently saw there was a free one-month trial available, which I figured was worth a go at, given I did have a few items on my shopping list. Now I’m a bit worried it’s changed the way I buy books for good! I was recently browsing in Borders in town, and saw a book I quite liked. On returning home, I looked it up on amazon, and ordered the book, saving myself £3 on the Borders price. OK, the £49 divides out over the course of the year, but the convenience and speed with which items come (no more batching up big orders to save) makes it a whole different experience.

Well worth considering if you love books as much as I do. Take a look at the details here.

Well as I ordered a book and neede the guaranteed next day delivery back in October my postage would have been about £9 for the items requested so I thought I would take up the FREE 30 Day amazon trial.

Thought I was fantastic all items arrived next day so used it a couple of times during october and was so impressed thought I would stay subscribed.

BAD MISTAKE first order since paying the £49 was in November and it took 4 days for my items to arrive and I had to go and pick them up myself from Royal Mail office. after chasing my stuff via e mail with amazon the sent an e mail saying to wait upto 5 working days before chasing parcel!

Again I ordered last Thursday for guaranteed deliver before 1 on Saturday. needless to sat I am sat here on Tuesday wondering where my stuff is and after half an hour on the phone to Amazon still none the wiser. They even expected my to chase up Royal Mail myself. After eventually getting to talk to someone in authority at Amazon got told they couldn’t even re dispatch as they had sold out of my Items.

I think they are totally mis selling this service .
Next day isn’t always next day so watch out if you NEED next day.
if you only ordered one item per month it costs you abou £4.08 delivery and you can ofeten find an item cheaper with another seller than on amazon prime although you will have to pay shipping which may be say £2.75 it would still work out cheeper not to have subscribed. Wish I hadn’t.

Although after a lot of hastle they have said they would refund me some of my amazon prime subscription for poor service I am giving them one last go.

    Amazon Prime?

Nice of them to remind me that my free trial was coming to an end!

I am now £49 poorer for a service that I didnt use thanks to subversive sales techniques.

Don’t use this overblown crap and stick to standard delivery unless you are ordering lots and lots of stuff.
