Comment policy

It saddens me slightly that I now feel the need for a comment policy. This has been in place for some time (in the footer of the old site), but I figured it needed formalising.

The guidelines and notes for comments and submissions are quite simple really:

  • They may be moderated, so please don’t post a second time if they don’t appear.
  • They are the sole responsibility of the comment authors (ie. you!). As such, comments do not necessarily reflect the views of myself, or anybody else for that matter.
  • I take the default view of publishing comments unless there is strong and compelling reason not to. Therefore think before you submit a comment. I will largely only reject abusive, offensive, rude or spam comments. If you feel this applies to a comment I have approved, please contact me directly via the contact page, but please appreciate this is a matter of opinion.
  • You agree, in posting or submitting comments or forms to this site, that the content may be used (with attribution) for any purpose, by me, the site owner.
  • I reserve the right to prevent repeated abusers, nuisance posters, spammers or trolls from using my website, from commenting through to all access, as I feel appropriate.
  • I will not pass on personal details of other commentators without their explicit permission. This is how I expect my data to be treated, so it’s how I treat yours and everybody else’s.
  • My decision in all matters is final.

Special notes for high-volume subjects:

  • I may not approve comments that are repeating an earlier point, question, or answer.
  • I may edit for clarity.

Finally, I’d ask that readers be as polite and civil as possible. Most people reading this site, and posting comments are nice, civil, polite people who’d quite happily pass the tea and biscuits when asked. Please, therefore, treat others as you’d wish to be treated yourself. You’ll find that’s a useful guideline for getting by in life too.
