A while since the last update: We’ve been travelling around the south section of the south Island. After Christchurch we nipped up to see Mount Cook, then down to Dunedin via Omaru (lovely little blue penguins waddling out of the sea), then down to Invercargill via the Catlins (You were right Stew: We should have paid more heed).

The last couple of days - and tonight - we’re in Fiordland, Te Anau to be specific. We’ve just got back from an afternoon up at Milford Sound: Spectacular, but the highlight so far of our trip has been our overnight cruise to Doubtful sound: Seeing Dolphins riding the waves at the bow of the ship, jumping up and racing along was really quite something. Great experience, and the crew and guests of the Fiordland Navigator made is something quite special.

So, whereas in Japan we took excessive numbers of pictures of Cherry Blossoms, we now have excessive pictures of stunning mountainous scenery, interspersed with pictures of wildlife.

New Zealand is living up to every bit of our expectations: It truly is a wonderful country, with wonderful friendly people at every stop. And we’ve got another two weeks in the South Island yet, and 10 days in the north Island.

I don’t think I’m going to tire of this place. Although the supermarkets without alchohol for sale puzzle me. More postcards just dispatched, and we posted some generic ones from Mt Cook over the weekend. More due to be posted shortly: We’re heading up to Queenstown + surrounds tomorrow, then it’s up the west coast to Glaciers, Greymouth and Arthurs pass.
