The revamped website

Regular visitors will see that the website has undergone a little bit of a transformation. I spent a good few hours yesterday putting together a new landing page, which gives - I think - a bit more of a personal touch to the site. I’ve also had a big spring clean of the right hand side bar, and revisited the colour scheme. Hope you don’t mind the mug-shot here as well…

The front page also has links into articles and publications I’m particularly happy with, or that are popular on this website. As time passes this list will no doubt grow. There’s also now an about me page, which is a short summary of who I am.

The landing page has few photographs on them. I’m sure some of them might be slightly puzzling to most people, so here’s a brief explanation of what they are.

Walking Boot We saw this on the side of the road whilst driving from Te Anau to Milford Sound in New Zealand. It was just sat there, exactly as the photo depicts, on the top of a rock. I just found it so amusing, I had to take a photo. What’s the story behind it? I’ve no idea. Somehow, somebody lost a boot in the middle of nowhere.

I’d actually thought about using this as an image for Techie Musings (shoes are, after all, a clever piece of technology), but as the front page changed, it just became good as a curious image.

Mugshot

This is one of the few half-decent pictures of me that I feel comfortable putting up on this website. It was taken using a black and white film on a visit to Stourhead. My mother took the picture (the full picture has Frances in it too), outside one of the many beautiful buildings throughout the gardens.

Saki Barrels We saw these barrels stacked high in a Shinto temple whilst we were in Tokyo. I didn’t sample much Saki whilst in Japan, but needless to say it’s a hugely popular drink there, such that this temple keeps hold on to these special barrels. Read more about our trip to Japan here

Pinnacles, Western Australia This is one of my favourite pictures from our travels, and was taken at the Pinnacles. It was taken after a bit of a downpour, just as we were loosing hope that there would be any decent pictures to be taken. Suddenly, the sky went a beautiful yellow, and illuminated the sand and rocks. I popped the camera down on a low pinnacle, and set it to time release and dashed back.

All in all, I hope you like the new website. A few more minor changes to come, but I’d appreciate any feedback you might like. Details in the top-right hand corner.

    Website tweaks

Well, as I discuss on my personal pages, I’ve recently revamped the website. Some of the changes have been aesthetic, but others are technical behind the scenes changes. Firstly, I’ve put a sidebar on the individual archive pages. This wasn’t particula…
