Sun’s ZFS: Boiling the oceans

Sun Microsystems have announced their ZFS file system, which claims many impressive features. The press release had me chuckling too. ZFS is a 128-bit file system. It explains that “…populating 128-bit file systems would exceed the quantum limits of earth-based storage. You couldn’t fill a 128-bit storage pool without boiling the oceans.

Other nice features include checksumming files automatically, to ensure what you write out is what you get back. No silent corruption. Automatic growth is good to see too.
