It’s been a little while since Frances and I been out together, and longer still since we had noodles together. So last night we went into the centre of Glasgow to Ichiban, a superb Japanese noodle bar here that’s been around for some time.
It’s a nice little place, and it’s comparable to Chi Noodle (my favourite noodle restaurant in London) in it’s range of noodles and rice dishes. What sets it apart is that it has superb Sushi on the menu too. It’s not the widest selection I’ve seen by far, but it was good quality sushi, and reasonable portions as well. Whilst we’ll still keep hunting for a Glasgow sushi restaurant, this is a good backup for our raw fish fix.
Ichiban is in the standard mold of noodle bars, in that there are long tables at which you sit. Unlike others though, the seating is a bit more condusive to private conversation: The benches are broken up to sit four people together.
After we had feasted on Sushi, we both then opted for soup noodles, and they were really rather good. Seafood Ramen for me and Chicken Ramen for Frances. The soup itself was gorgeous, and in my case I was pleasantly surprised by the range of seafood included: Not just a few bits of crab stick and a couple of prawns, I had a good range including Squid, and even rather surprisingly a couple of pieces of Scallop.
Very prompt service, and a reasonable price (£30.70p, plus tip brought it to £34) for such an enjoyable meal. We’ll certainly be going to Ichiban more regularly.

I can’t help noticing the maroon banner ads that don’t seem to click thru ! Have you sold out ? ….. or, have you negotiated some amazing discounts for your listeners ? If its the latter there are a number of, shall I say, special causes to which I could maybe bend your ear.

Implementing Google Adverts
As my friend Stewart Claydon notes, I’ve recently implemented Google AdWords on leyton.org. Right now, it’s more of an experiment - to see whether the adverts really are relevant, are suitably unintrusive, and add up to a useful source of revenue to he…
