Early last week, I wrote a letter to Glasgow Council regarding some works that had been left in a bit of a mess outside our flat.
I’m pleased to report that this morning I received a response back from the Head of Maintenance and Design. The letter reads: Re: Works on Moness Drive/Corkerhill Road
Thank you for your letter of 03 January 2005 concerning the condition of the footway at the above location.
A member of my Utility Monitoring Team inspected the location on the afternoon of the 05 January and established the utility that carried out this work was Thus PLC.
Their contractor carried out the work and effected a temporary reinstatement until the permanent repair could be completed. This repair was scheduled for after the New Year holidays. The contractor has now been contacted to carry out remedial work to this reinstatement. He is carrying out the remedials on the 7th January and has informed me that the permanent reinstatement will be carried out on Tuesday 11th January
Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention.
Yours sincerely,
[Name redacted] Head of Maintenance & Design
So, Thus decided that digging - and leaving - large holes in the pavement for a month was a good idea. At least I know that now and can duly feel bitter and twisted and boycott their products now
More remarkable is that the council actually listened. I’d had, and heard, a lot of doubt that I’d even get a response.
The remedial work was actually carried out when they said, and would appear to be the rather bodgy fix I refer to here. Today at least, I’ll be keeping my eyes and ears peeled to see how the proper reinstatement goes.
What next? Well, I’ll give it a bit of time and then raise the wider issue of the deplorable state of Glasgow’s road markings. I am on a roll, after all.
