There’s an interview with a link spammer over at The Register which will make for interesting reading for anybody who runs a website with a “Comment” function.

With 2876 comments blocked and 2093 held for moderation (and only about 10 real comments) since I upgraded to MT 3.15 in January, it might give non-weblogger readers an impression of just how bad such spam can be.

It’s an interesting article, and as a result of reading it I’m going to be huntin out a Movable Type “Captcha” plugin: There’s a lot of graft to go through to ‘de-spam’ Movable type, even when you have MT Blacklist installed - “Captcha” plugins sound like a good deterrent. The real problem is, and remains, the thousands of dead weblogs out there, and - as always - badly configured systems wide open to abuse.
