I’ve bought myself a new toy for my birthday (which is tomorrow if you’re interested). I’ve been promising myself a Nikon D70 for quite some time, but just couldn’t find the justification for such an outlay. But the straw that broke the camels back was the £100 cashback offer on the combination purchase with the 18-70mm lense available at amazon.
So we’re going away this weekend, and I’m taking it with me. Fingers crossed the weather will be good, because I’m looking very much forward to trying it out!

Nice one Richard. You will love it and love it more. I have used the D70. As it happens I am using Canon DSLR and they are NEARLY as good, but after a zillion years of using Nikons I wish I had stuck to them for digital.
Thanks for all the useful knowledge I have gained from your site.

Nice one Richard. I’m planning on getting a “real” digital SLR at some point in the next few months. Originally I was thinking about the Canon Digital Rebel but was put off by its speed in taking multiple shots in a “burst”. I know Canon have recently announced a new model but I’ve not thought to look at the Nikon, and with a cashback bargain from Amazon, it sounds like you can’t go wrong. I look forward to hearing how you get on with your new toy.

[...] I wanted to further that with a non-foody recommendation, and that’s going to hopefully be of interest to Glasgwegian (and Scottish) photographers. If you’ve not already been to Quiggs, then you’re missing out on the best photography shop in town. I was in there this morning hoping to get my Nikon D70 cleaned, and my film camera serviced. [...]
