Not long to go until the series finale of Doctor Who. It’s been a triumphant return to our screens, a combination of excellent stories, enthusiastic acting, and an intriguing story-arc.
I gather a third series has been commissioned, purely on the success of this first series. Whilst it’s a great shame Christopher Ecclestone won’t continue as the Doctor into the second series, hopefully they’ll be able to continue on the strength of the abilities of a successful team.
I’m also very glad the writers haven’t backed away from writing really rather scary stories, even for the adults (”The empty child” episode springs to mind as the best this series). As a popular piece of entertainment across the last few decades, I actually think it’s great that children are hiding behind the sofas of the country again, just as I did years ago with Tom Baker and Peter Davidson as the earlier Doctors! It’s a sign that they’re more than able to draw viewers in to the story in a way that just isn’t possible in many of the other programmes on television just now. Of course, humour abounds too, and there’s plenty of the original campness. Special effects have come a long way since mucking about in Welsh quarries!
Theories abound about the meaning of “Bad Wolf”, and my view is it’s either a return of Doctor Who’s arch-enemy The Master, or a return of the character from earlier in the series who left with a whole lot of knowledge about the Doctor and the history of the world, including - no doubt - some of the details of the Daleks. Exciting stuff!
Update. So it was Rose opening up the Time vortex at the heart of the TARDIS. Felt like quite a bit of a plot-line cop-out to be honest, but good stuff nonetheless. Looking forward to the Christmas special and the new series next year.

[...] This time last year I made a pitiful attempt to guess the end of the first series of the new Doctor Who, so I won’t do the same this time around. [...]
