Well we’ve finally moved in to our new house. The last few days have been tiring and traumatic, as moves almost always are, but we got there in the end.

We’re delighted to have our stuff back again, although looking at the boxes of books and boxes of clothes - none of which has been touched, much less thought of much - in the eighteen months it’s been in storage, and we’ve got a lot of chucking out to do. There’s no point holding on to them really.

We’ve had our fair share of problems too, not least with regards the storage company (Ace Removals, aka “The Careful Company”. pffffttt!). We discovered that our sofa had not been covered up, so was covered in dust (We’d offered plastic sheets to the removal folk, but they said they’d do it, and clearly didn’t, once they had the stuff in storage). Plus our dining room table has been damaged. They claim it was the company that collected the items from our house in London, but as we hired Ace and not Mac Pac, I don’t see the distinction. Suffice to say, we’ll be writing to let them know our thoughts, and look for compensation. They don’t come recommended at this point.

Mice have also had a go at a few items that were in a garage. And I managed to not wash my hands after dealing with the affected items, and felt rather rubbish much of yesterday evening as my body sorted itself out. There’s a lesson in there kids! As a result, we’ve had to chuck a few items that bore the brunt of their nibblings.

Other than that, things have gone well. We’re a long way off being able to sit down and look about us and think “it’s as we want it”, but we’ve our own bed in our own house, with all the trimmings you could want. A swathe of letters have been sent off changing addresses, and the local DIY shops will be seeing a lot of us in the coming months too, I’m sure.

Broadband isn’t due until early next week… It’s very much a ‘mandatory service’ in my book these days, shortly after Water, Gas and Electricity, although I’m sure Frances might puzzle by my use of “after” there ;-)

I’m also looking forward to finishing my job next month. It can’t come soon enough to be honest, not least that I’m very much looking forward to starting on the next few things I have planned. More on that in due course.

Anyway, the (new, rapid boil) kettle has just boiled, so cup of tea time.

That’s great Richard, all we need now is your address ;)

With you on the broadband…that’s one of our pre-req’s too, so you aren’t the only one.

Hope you are getting sorted out by now. Love to you both.
