We were in Somerset this weekend, and one morning I managed to drag myself out of bed at the unearthly time of 8am (hey, it was a Saturday!), to go for a walk in Stockhill Forest. I took along my digital SLR and took a few photographs. A few of my favourites are available at flickr.
Later that morning, we then went Go-Karting for my brother Peter’s 30th birthday party…. A few pictures from that event - and the ensuing drinks at the Vic - are available on flickr too.

Richard, I never knew that you were a ‘morning’ person. I did exactly the same thing on Saturday morning, but for me it was 7:30am at Richmond Park in West London!

Great minds think alike.

I’m most certainly not a morning person, especially without a decent cup of coffee, but managed to go the entire weekend without a solitary drop!
I think your earlier start made for a much better morning light, although it seems we’ve both gone for a couple of similar shots of the frost, and silhouetted figures against the light. I’ve a few more to add in a while, once I’ve stitched them together…
Anyway, your pictures are excellent! The redder sun makes for some wonderfully atmospheric shots. The extra hour you had over me seems to have made a big difference in the colour and mood.
Indeed! I didn’t realise you were ‘into’ photography at all, much less that you’d splashed out on a Digital SLR! How’re you finding it? I’ve always been a Nikon person, and have a few lenses to go with my D70, although I find I stick exclusively to the wide-angle I got when I bought it earlier this year.
It was certainly hard work trying to get the best of the light, and conditions. That time in the morning things are changing so rapidly too, and there are so many different shots to try.
If the conditions remain as they are, I’m going to try and pursuade Frances to get up early this weekend and go for a walk in nearby Pollock Park… However, that may land me in a lot of trouble.
