Well we finally posted our Christmas cards this weekend. We sent a lot this year to ensure folk have our new address: E-mail isn’t always the best way of letting people know you’ve moved, and it’s a bit more enjoyable sending christmas cards out. We found some nice ones from a charity stall at the Glasgow Farmers’ Market a week or so ago, and spent a while at Beanscene shortly afterwards getting them written.

We also got the Christmas tree up. Normally it’s a very last-minute thing, but this year we got in on the act a bit sooner. That we’re away this coming weekend visiting friends in London meant we wouldn’t get as long to enjoy it. Amazingly our lights worked perfectly when we unpacked them. Not bad given they’ve been all over the country, in and out of storage, and unused for a couple of years!

Still struggling to find the christmas spirit though. Perhaps it’s too soon after having battled the hoards in Glasgow. It never ceases to amaze me how a season that is supposed to be about good will and being nice to everybody, is accompanied by such unpleasantness beforehand. I think much of the the point of it all has been lost to consumerism. I wanted to suggest charity/fun gifts only this year, but didn’t get around t0 it what with the house move and all. Surely putting more effort into being nice and happy in the run-up, is better than bitterness and negative bank balances….

For the first time last year, I bought ‘Goats’. The re-action from the receivers was amazing. This year, they are buying goats, donkeys, chickens etc. Thank goodness no more ‘presents’ for the Charity Shops. Although things to eat, drink or grow are still acceptable. It will be exciting to see what I have ‘bought’ this year.
