The excellent tuaw.com (The Unofficial Apple Weblog) has started up a regular “Mac tip of the day” category.

In my experience it’s always useful, and frequently fun, to read up on such tips. The first tip was just that. One of those extraordinarily obvious (when you think about it) things, that you just never got around to trying. This was Put your hard disk in your dock which means you get quick access to files, directories and applications, without having to fiddle about with Finder.

Another tip, of particular interest to new Mac users are Common Mistakes made by new mac users (The numbers of which seem to be growing, even in my circle of friends and family).

And here’s one I’d like to add. My father recently commented about the “hard to read text” on the television channel the company I’m working for has launched (more on that at some later point, or e-mail me: It’s not being publicised yet): The text was hard to read, for various technical reasons, but it reminded me that it can be hard in some cases, for some people, to read websites with lots of text (Like this) at default fonts.

So, the tip: In any web browser (Well, Safari, Firefox and IE) you can increase and decrease the font-size by pressing Apple-plus and Apple-minus (ie. hold down the apple key, and press the minus/underbar key, or the plus/equal key). It’ll work right now as you’re reading this, and should make the text easier to read if you have trouble with the default fontsize. And I’m delighted to say that this works with Mail.app too! You might want to try it with other applications as well! Post a comment below if you find anything useful!
