This last weekend we redecorated the front room. We’ve one more coat of paint to apply, but we couldn’t finish the job because we were worried about the wood which is busy acclimatising in the same room: We were worried that too much moisture could complicate matters, so we called off the work on Sunday, which gave it three full days.
So last night we pulled up the carpet in the kitchen/sitting room, and laminate flooring in the hall, ready for the fitters who are due tomorrow. We’re very nervous (following our kitchen hassles), but our concerns have been put somewhat to bed by the fact that the company (Living Interiors, at 216 Great Western Road here in Glasgow) has phoned to check we’ve had the heating on, and also to exchange the wood they had delivered a few weeks ago by mistake: We’d bought wood with aluminium oxide finishing (aluminium oxide finishing improves durability, and gives us a 25 year guarantee), but they’d delivered wood without it. That they changed it over was surprising at first, but a relief: We’re somewhat jaded by workmen to date, but have a good feeling about the wood fitters.
So the right stuff is warming up ready for fitting, the floor is ready for it to go on, all that will be remaining are the skirting boards, another coat of paint in the front room, and a few bits in the kitchen.
We’re hoping we’ll also soon be able to get our sofas delivered for the front room. We bought and paid for these back in February, and they’ve been sat in a warehouse somewhere since early March when they were ready to be delivered! We can’t wait, as having the front room and the nice leather seats available to us will make the house feel much more usable, much larger (we’ve been confined to the kitchen/sitting room most of the time), and more our own.
It’s also nice that the weather is starting to cheer up a bit. Daffodils are starting to make an appearance in a few gardens. A late start this year, certainly, but not a moment too soon in my book: Spring is probably my favourite season, and it’ll help lift our spirits immensely, but not nearly as much as having finished the work we started a while back.

Good luck on the last stretch.
