After a long period of time away from home, for personal and work reasons, this weekend marked the first ‘proper’ weekend at home, and the weather certainly put on a show. In my admittedly rather limited experience up here, Glasgow is rarely solidly sunny for more than a day or two at a time, so enjoying it was very much a priority.
So I felt obliged to get on and tackle some of those long outstanding gardening chores, specifically trimming the hedge, mowing the lawn (it’s third such encounter with my mower) and strimming and tidying up the edges. This morning I’m still somewhat sore from the effort, but the garden looks a whole lot better as a result. Strange how spending a small fortune on toys^h^h^h^htools for the garden, more specifically four hours of light labour highlight how unfit I am. However, enjoying the sun and meeting a few of the neighbours made up for it.
There was then the obligatory BBQ at the end of it all with some local produce from the Glasgow Farmers Market, which we’d managed to pick up on our trip to the DIY shop. Frances even picked up a slightly surprised, and very ugly looking fish on her trip to the supermarket for a few odds and sods, which was suitably pointy, prickly and in need of gutting, but was none the less a treat to eat. It’s name eludes me right now.
And yesterday, after a few more chores (not least getting rid of the hedge trimmings, as our organic waste b in is full to overflowing), Ostrich Lasagna was on the cards. Another purchase from the farmers market from a few weeks back. A lighter meat, more like beef than anything else. But certainly tasted rather good.
Oh, and lest I forget, if you’ve not tried Badgers Golden Glory, might I suggest you check it out whether or not you like real ale or not. It’s a delightfully refreshing and beautifully tasting beer, and I’m having a hard job buying any other beer but this right now! It’s slight peachy smell is delightful, and absolutely delightful for sipping of an evening after a day spent doing those chores in the garden, and feeling all the better for having done them.

Beer from Australia!!!!
Shame on you Steve for adding to pollution when there are perfectly good beers and some excellent ones brewed locally or at least in the UK. Black Sheep, Old Peculiar, Bluebird, Speckled Hen etc.
Not heard of Badgers Golden Glory but will look out for it.

Returned from Kilsyth (Tuesday). The first time ever I have been in Scotland and wished I was not. Unrelenting sun and no breeze.
