On a morning like this…

It was a beautifully crisp, clear and quiet morning, and it was just asking for a run through Pollok Park. I’m definitely with Dave on this one: It’s the best weather for running. My route takes me around the outside road/track of Pollok park, and the view as I reached the river down by Pollok House was quite simply breath-taking. The sun was just rising, so there was a lovely orange hue. Mist hung over the water, and the frost on the grass set it all off beautifully. I had judged my clothing right, so I was feeling comfortable, and my time was pretty good.

My running routine is back to where it was last year, primarily because the mornings are now light enough that I can get a run in before work. It just sets me up nicely for the day. I just don’t really like the idea of running in the evening, and as much as a break during the day is nice, it means a rushed lunch, and I like to unwind a bit rather than run. But needs must, so I had been running then during the dark winter months which Glasgow does so, er, well.

My times have been steadily improving. Around 5′40″ per kilometer, and I’m getting my normal run (just over 5k) done in a little less than 30 minutes. My hope over the next few weeks is to start running closer to an hour at least once a week (probably on a weekend, unless I get up extra-early), and start looking to get some 10k times in. Of course that will mean changing my route and taking in either Bellahouston park or Queen’s park, or doing another circuit of Pollok Park, which is something to look forward to.

If only every morning was as beautiful as this morning, I’d be out every day!
