Autumn started yesterday

Summer 2007 is over. Finished. Done. Dusted. I think it actually happened in April, but we didn’t realise it at the time, and just enjoyed it for a bit of a heat wave. The rain that has fallen since were therefore a prelude to Autumn that started, for me at least, yesterday.

I was on a run around Pollok Park, and I’m afraid to report that there were the first real signs of autumnal colours appearing in some of the trees around the pond in the north wood. Definite tinges of yellow, orange in some places. The apples in our tree are looking like they’re almost ready too, and the squirrels are seeming much much busier (and out of sight). Busy hiding the abundant nuts I imagine.

To top it all the football season started last week, in Scotland at least. Today marks the start of the English premiership season. Oh unbridled joy. Another sign of autumn. My mother always felt that autumn proper started with the first rain after Priddy sheep fair, which is at the end of August (at least when there’s no foot and mouth restriction in place!).

Given this year is rushing by so very very fast, I suppose it’s only fitting that it’s autumn already.

Sorry to be the bringer of such news, but don’t tell me you’re shocked by the revelation.
