I was introduced to The Decemberists last year by my friend Adam, and I’ll confess that first impressions didn’t really do it for me. But working from home with your music playing much of the time (I find almost all DJ’s enough to put me off any music radio) you find yourself getting a little […]

The last couple of weeks has somehow been rather busy for all the right reasons, and this site has been somewhat neglected. Probably not going to cause anybody any heart-ache (especially as most of my visitors are hitting the old archive stuff not the latest and, er, greatest).
Figured it might be worth a short ‘update’ […]
I always feel quite chuffed when I recognise a piece of music in an advert, especially if it’s from somebody more obscure. Saab are, I think, using one of Aphex Twin’s tracks (”Shiny Metal Rods”, from Selected Ambient Works Vol 2), I think we all discovered a new talent in José González with the Sony […]
Strange how you stumble on things you’ve never thought about before, and as it sinks in the excitement builds to the point where you wonder how on earth you never realised this was happening before, why you never thought of it as a possibility, and just how good it’s going to be.

Thanks to my friend Adam, I was introduced to a rather good Icelandic band by the name of Sigur Rós. It’s more than just Björk up there you see. Instrumental, atmospheric, interesting, and very different.

I’ve previously mentioned Psapp, and I am still enjoying their music more than ever. The good news for fans then, is that Psapp have a new album out soon.
They’ve also recently become quite well known, having scribed the theme music to the excellent new US import Grey’s anatomy which follows the also excellent House […]
Last night Frances, Paul and myself went along to see José González, he of Heartbeats fame (that’s the Sony Bravia advert with the bouncing balls in San Francisco, see here for more).
A mailing list I’m on drew my attention to a phone interview on Radio 5 last night by Stephen Nolan, with Philip Pullman (author of the His Dark Materials trilogy, my review here). What follows is probably one of the most unbelievably rude treatments I’ve heard of a well respected author by somebody who seemed […]

I enjoy a variety of music, including classical music, and Mozart is certainly one of my favourite classical composers. Today is therefore an exciting day, as it’s the 250th anniversary of his birth in Salzburg, Austria. Wikipedia’s Mozart entry even has some public domain (ogg) downloads of various compositions.
Last year we went to listen to […]

The Celtic Connections music festival is on in Glasgow at the moment, dubbed “Scotlands Premier Winter Music Festival”. Last year we went along to see “Blazing Fiddles” with a number of famous Scottish singers, but unfortunately that particular concert was sold out this time around - no doubt helped by last years success (it was […]
