At last, the new Apple iMac has been launched (UK Pricing here). El Reg has a good overview, but the pictures at www.apple.com/imac give a great overview of how compact a computer can look these days: It’s pretty much nothing but a thick LCD screen.

Suffice to say, it’s pretty much exactly what I’m after for a home computer. Add a few little extras in there (ie. bluetooth - shame to see that’s not included as standard as per the powerbooks; and more memory), and it strikes me as perfect for my needs.

Only minor gotcha seems to be the lack of a VGA in port, so you could use the display for other systems. Still, that’s a minor issue, and not altogether unsurprising for them not to include it.

Watch this space for a review! I’ll be ordering one soon…

However, the fact of the matter is I’m running Tiger, which has only just come out, and it could well be something to do with that; and with a new update due out any day now, I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that sorts things out.
