My various problems with Bluetooth on my iMac G5 are still ongoing. Now that I’m using a USB keyboard and mouse, they’re less obvious but still there. The Bluetooth icon in the menu bar is almost always “Not available” after switching the machine off.

So, on an off-chance I searched Apple Support, and discovered quite a few mentions that it’s possibly USB 1.1 related, and has been ongoing for some time. As I’ve a laser printer hooked in most of the time, I’ve now moved it to my keyboard hub to see if that helps.

It certainly seems odd, especially as Bluetooth isn’t showing up in the USB tree (Click on “More Info” in the “About this Mac” dialogue, launched from the Apple menu). Still, if it works I’ll be happy and off to pick up a proper USB hub.

The short answer is: Yes, this has solved my problem! A separate hub needs to be purchased if you have the wireless keyboard and just want that to work.

    Very frustrating.
